Retrieving overwritten files - possible?? (2 posts)

I did a dumb, dumb thing. I overwrite my config.php file, broke my client's site in the process and DON'T HAVE A BACKUP of the file with the lastest security hashes. I know, I know. I'll leave my webmastering credentials at the desk on my way out.

This happened yesterday afternoon. Is there ANY way to go back in time and retrieve a file from yesterday, before it was overwritten?

Sometimes long shots are the only ones left to take.

    Hi Cowgirl,

I'm afraid the only option would be to contact the folks who run the server where the file resides and see if they keep backups or can recover the previous version of the file somehow; it's totally up to the server if it does that sort of thing. (Unfortunately, most do not.)

    Good luck,
