SFTP and dragging from window to window fails (4 posts)

    Hi,

I work frequently with a site that has a staging and production version on the same server. I open two windows, and navigate to a specific folder in each site. From there, if I want to copy a file or directory, that seems to fail with the message below:

Fetch could not move "/foo/foo-staging/wp-content/plugins/foo.php" to "foo.php" because the SFTP server says a command failed.

Here's the SSH banner from the site, looks like a standard OpenSSH setup:

    SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_6.6.1p1 Ubuntu-2ubuntu2.8

One of my clunkier workarounds is to either use my local host as an intermediary or open another ftp/sftp program and drag/drop from one program to another.

    Hi,

If you have to windows open to the same server, dragging a file will move (rather than copy) it. To have Fetch copy the file, hold down Option when you drag (a + badge should appear on the cursor). Could you give that a try and let me know if it works?

    Thanks,

Doh! Yes, that worked. Any way to toggle the default to be copy? And should the move option work?

    Hi,

There isn't a way to toggle the default. Move should work, and I'd be happy to look further into why it wasn't working for you. The next step would be to choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and send me the contents the next time you see that error.

    Thanks,
