Skipping permission denied dialogs (2 posts)

We have a dedicated webserver that was setup and is still occasionally managed by a separate party. We can upload and download most files from the server for editing and backup but a few have root permissions only and we cannot download them. That's fine with us. We do not need those files and the host won't change the permissions on those files -- he's afraid we'll mess it up. :)

But the server has over 25,000 files just for one website and during backup downloads, they never finish unless someone is at the computer to click on warning dialog boxes which state we "do not have permissions to access the file, permission denied, yadda, yadda..."

Is there any way to skip those dialog boxes and keep the download of the directories going?

    Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to work around this problem in Fetch. I'm assuming it's not easy to select all the files but the ones with root permission.

The best solution would be to convince the admin to change the permissions. :-) After that, about the only option is to write an AppleScript that downloads all the files and ignores those errors. You can find information on scripting Fetch in the Scripting topic in Fetch Help (or click on the link here); there are also example AppleScripts available at http://fetchsoftworks.com/FetchExampleScripts.sitx . Let us know if you have questions about scripting if you decide to go this route.

Sorry not to have a better answer,
