Hello, I am new to Fetch, using it on a trial basis, and not having much success.

I am using Fetch 4.0.3, and my Mac OS is 9.0

My dial-up connection speed is usually 50000 bps, yet Fetch transfers at 30000 to begin with, drops to 15000 within two minutes, and drops again to 4000 or lower in another minute and stays there.

In the software Help troubleshooting section regarding decreasing speeds it says to contact my ISP, which I did. Called Earthlink, everything seems to be fine. I searched my computer with Sherlock and did not get any hits for SLIP. I got a few for PPP, but cannot figure out how those few hits may relate to Fetch.

    Please help.

The number displayed by Fetch is bytes per second, while your modem's speed is measured in bits per second. There are eight bits in a byte, so if Fetch is getting 4,000 bytes per second that translates to 32,000 bits. A 56k modem has a maximum upload speed of 33,600 bits/second, so 4,000 bytes/second is very close to the maximum you can expect.
