i've read through all the other posts, but haven't found an answer for this problem yet. i log in to the ftp server successfully, but no remote directory is displayed. if i refresh the file list, the dog runs after the LIST command is issued until the connection times out. transcript follows:

based on other postsplies, i've tried toggling PASV to no avail. other suggestions as to what i've munged? thanks,

What does the transcript look like with PASV checked (in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences)?

Can you get a file list from ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the User ID and Password fields blank)?

    Thanks,

It looks like a firewall on your network (or your ISPs) is blocking the connection used for the file list. Was Fetch working before? Has anything changed about the setup of your computer or network?

    Thanks,

i didn't change anything. BUT, i think i'm getting closer...

fetch worked fine until i installed SecurityUpd2003-03-24.dmg.bin last week. now, if i enable ftp in sharing->services in network preferences, i can ftp from a shell. fetch still hangs with a running dog until it times out. i've changed nothing except for installing the security update, so perhaps it's apple who broke this.

when i called my isp this morning the mac guy wasn't due in until 10a, and the windows guy wasn't much help. if i get any useful information on the callback or poking around the til & discussions at apple, i'll report my findings.

    thanks, Jim.

Can you get a file list at ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the User ID and Password fields blank) with PASV, or without PASV?

Thanks for the pointer; I'll check it out.

    both work. today.

But you still can't connect to your server? That suggests a change at the server end, as opposed to a problem with the security update.

    Thanks,
