I have used fetch 3 before to transfer large tif files from a unix- based Silicon Graphics computer to my Mac OS9. I am now trying fetch 4. However, I am running into a problem that the downloads for a 877K file are taking hours and inevidently get disconnected that I have not yet downloaded a file either either fetch version. When I either drag or get the file, the trasfer starts out fast 1,000 bytes/s but then slows down to 100bytes in a few minutes.. Any suggestions to the problem? Maybe our network ( cleveland clinic) but anyway to make this go faster??

    Hi Dianne,

This is either a problem with the network or the server you're trying to download from. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to fix the problem in Fetch.

One thing to try is to connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (no username or password is required), and downloading the "Fetch_4.0.3.sit" file that's there. If it downloads quickly, the problem is with the Silicon Graphics server, and you should talk to the person who runs it to see if they can figure out the problem.

If you see a slow download from ftp.fetchsoftworks.com too, then it's a network problem, and you need to talk to your network administrator.

If you've still got questions after doing that test and talking to either the server or network administrators, let us know.

    Thanks,
