    We are trialing Fetch.

A remote user (OSX) can download any files from the FTP (OS9), no problem.

    He can upload, no problem.

Alas, whatever the program (Quark, Word, Acrobat) the FTP cannot find the translators to open the files.

I have noticed the same problem with attachments sent by email (Outlook Express).

    Is there a solution?

I'm not sure I understand the situation. Is the remote user uploading or downloading the Quark, Word and Acrobat files in question? Is he trying to open those files on his OS X system, or are you trying to open them on your Mac OS 9 system? What FTP server are you running on the Mac OS 9 system?

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Our FTP is on a Mac Server running OS 9.1 Appleshare 6.3.

The remote user (OSX) can download any files from the FTP (OS9), no problem, and he can then work on them, whichever program created them.

The problem comes when he posts them back on the server. The files are visible but we are unable to open them – they are visible on the finder, though with no program icon, instead listed as "document".

How can we, for instance, ensure when he sends back a PDF we can open it on the server?

I would try uploading the files using AppleSingle or MacBinary III format. Do either of those give you a file you can open on the Mac OS 9 server?

    Thanks,
