Hi,
Yes, Fetch can operate on both machines. Fetch 5.2.1 is the latest version, you can update to it for free.
But I do not believe that your problem is related to the version of Fetch you're using; it sounds like it may be a server problem.
We'd like to see the transcript so we can figure out exactly what is going on.
Could you please do the following?
* Quit Fetch, if it's running.
* Open Fetch again.
* Connect to your server.
* Try uploading again.
* After you get the error, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.Thanks,

thank you for your reply. I deleted all old files on fetch and started from scrtach but the same thing happened .
here is some of the transcript that seems to relate to the problem. i couldn't copy the whole lot . it was just huge and keeep going bak to the start once i got to the end of the pages . there seemed to be no end to amount of transcript written . Its keeps referring to the file volcanic pallete, which is a picture on my site. But it had referred to same problem with another picture tunnel creek earlier.When i look at my site from the published files before they are uplaoded , everything looks fine, . i really hope you can help.

Hi,
It looks like the problem is that Fetch is trying to upload a folder "Volcanic Palette lr", which has a space at the end of its name. That is, its name is not just "Volcanic Palette lr" but "Volcanic Palette lr(space)".
Some servers get confused when there is a dangling space at the end of a name; yours appears to be one of them. When Fetch asked the server to create a copy of the folder, the server creates one called "Volcanic Palette lr_", that is, it replaced the space with an underscore. But Fetch is still trying to find the folder with a space at the end of it, because it doesn't realize the server unexpectedly changed the name. The result is an error.
The best solution to this problem is to remove the space from the end of the name of the folder. You said you were using iWeb; so I assume this folder is being created by iWeb when you pubilsh the website to a folder. So you should find the page, file, or links named "Volcanic Palette lr" in iWeb and make sure there is not a space at the end of them. Then re-publish the site and try uploading again.
If, after you fix that, you run into the same problem again, you should see what name the transcript is giving an error on, and make sure there are no spaces at the end of it.

thanks you for that . i did that and tried to reload. Now i Have the message
fetch could not put file dscn3114 because there was a time out waiting for tthe server to establish an active data connection. Local firewall might be blocking active mode port . try checking passive mode tranfer in general section in preferences.this box is already ticked. Tried again and same response.
I have norton running . IS that a problem???
I can't see anywhere in fetch where you turn off a fire wall.This is so frustrating as i just don't know what i'm doing wrong as everything worked well before. Can it be the new computer?

Hi,
It could be that you had a temporary server problem. Did you try uploading again after getting the error?
The firewall is a Mac OS X setting, not a Fetch setting.
You could check and see if it is on, and try turning it off and seeing if it helps. To do this:
* Go to the Mac OS X System Preferences.
* Click the Sharing icon.
* Click the Firewall tab.
* Click the Stop button if it says "Firewall On."
* Then try uploading again.If it says "Firewall Off," then the Mac OS X firewall was not on.
The Norton software could also possibly be running a firewall as well. We're not familiar with that software, so you will have to check the Norton manual or help to find out how to check for it and disable it.

My firewall was not turned on. So that was not an issue.
I tried to upload again and SUCESSS!!!! It worked perfectly!!!!
I don't think norton has any relation to it.But I still don't know if I did something wrong or was it godaddy.com host server. I dread to think if I upgrade my site again and go thru another 5 days of trying to fix something I don't understand , when i think i am doing all the right things.
But thank you so much for your help and feed back. you are the only person who could suggest any answers to me. I really appreciate the support .
Can you run fetch and do other things on the computer at the same time?? I think you should be able to , but my husband says turn off all the other applications, eg entourage etc.

Hopefully next time it won't be as difficult, now that you know to look out for spaces after file and page names.
Yes, it should be fine to use Fetch at the same time as other programs on your computer. I do, all the time!
The only thing to be aware of is that if are uploading or downloading files while trying to do other things with the Internet, you may notice that the Internet seems slow - that is, getting email or surfing the web may seem slower than usual. That's because Fetch is busy using your Internet connection to move your files, and that takes up most of its time. But reading email or webpages while using Fetch at the same time should be fine, as long as you realize there may be slowdowns.

HI
this is my first time on this forum. I don't know much about fetch but can't seem to figure out what is wrong. i have created my site on iweb and uplaoding using fetch. Usually it has been working well . this time I made some upgrades to my site then tried to upload the site again. i keep getting the message that a file already exists and server responded with Can't create directory file already exists. Each time I try it its a different file that it referes to but the same message. It say see fetch transcripts, but i don't understand what the information in the transcript actually means.
I recently bought a new imac and transfered all my applications across from the old imac computer. I have fetch 5.2 . Do i need to upgrade. Can fetch operate on both machines ?
