Trouble Using Fetch as Default FTP App (4 posts)

Hey guys. Anybody having this problem?

I do a lot of uploading on the job, but Safari is incompatible with my office's database system. Luckily, in recent months I've been able to use Fetch as my default FTP application. I click on an FTP link in Safari and Fetch launches. Easy as can be.

Except, ever since i upgraded to Leopard and downloaded the latest version of Fetch, that's no longer the case. Now, when I click on an FTP link, it tries to launch in a Safari window. I checked my Fetch settings and it's still listed as my default FTP application.

Anybody know what's up? Am I being stupid, missing something, or is this a bug? And it's it the latter, when will it be fixed? I upload so much stuff on a daily basis that this little quirk is really interfering with my productivity, believe it or not.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Matt,

There is not a bug with setting Fetch as the default FTP application on Leopard that we are aware of.

What happens if you switch the Fetch "Default FTP application" preference away from Fetch, and then back to Fetch again?

    Does that fix the problem?

    Thanks,

    Hey Scott,

No go, I'm afraid. I tried and nothing changed. Any suggestions?

    Hi Matt,

Yes, I have another suggestion! Please try doing the following:

    * Open Fetch.
    * Go to the Help menu, and choose Fetch Help.
    * In the help window, search for "launch services"
    * Double-click on the "Fixing problems choosing editors" help topic that appears in the search result.
    * Scroll down to the paragraph that begins with "If this does not fix the problem, your Launch Services database needs to be rebuilt."
    * Please read that paragraph and the following ones, and then click the "rebuild my Launch Services database for me" link, and follow the instructions.
    * Once it's done, open Fetch, open the Preferences, and check the default FTP helper preference. Change it back to Fetch, if necessary.

And then let us know if that fixes the problem or not.

    Thanks,
