I have been unable to connect to my FTP site and get the following message "An FTP connection to "www.dh2.com" could not be opened because the FTP server dropped the connection. Try agin, or contact the server administrator to verify that the server is running.

I am able to connect to the web and my local network.

That's odd -- I am able to connect to www.dh2.com from here. Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents after an unsuccessful attempt to connect? The transcript might include clues to the problem.

    Thanks,

I would recommend restarting your Mac. Let me know if that doesn't help.

    Thanks,

    Jim,

Just got back and tried the restart and thought how embarrassed I'd be if that worked, but I'm getting the same error message. Are there any other settings I should be aware of?

No, I can't think of any settings that would result in the behavior you're seeing.

My next suggestion would be to try to connect using the built-in OS X command line ftp program. That will reveal whether the problem is specific to Fetch. To do this you would:

    1) Choose Utilities from the Go menu in the Finder
    2) Open Terminal
    3) Type the following:

    ftp www.dh2.com

    and then Return

Are you prompted for your username, or do you get an error?

    Thanks,

    Jim,

I get an error, here it is.

    White-Panther:~ whitepanther$ ftp www.dh2.com
    Connected to www.dh2.com.
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.
    ftp>

Okay, that confirms that it isn't an issue with Fetch. The fact that I can connect suggests that it isn't just a problem with the server, either. The remaining possibilities are:

    1) It's a problem with your Mac and/or its Internet connection
    2) It's a problem specific to the combination of your Mac and this server

Are you able to connect to other servers? E.g. if you enter "ftp.fetchsoftworks.com" in the Hostname field, and leave the Username and Password fields blank, are you able to connect?

    Thanks,

    Jim,

    No problem, got right on.

That leaves 2), a problem specific to the combination of your Mac and the www.dh2.com server. I would contact the server administrator, and let them know that their server is dropping FTP connections from your Mac. Hopefully they can figure out why that is.

    Thanks,
