I just updated Fetch and have run into a problem. When I put a file and view it I find that the text has become gibberish. This has not happened before. I notice the new suffix, sitx, is affixed. What is happening here and how can I correct it?

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

What kind of file are you trying to upload, that is, which application did you create it with?

    Try doing the following:
    * Before connecting to the server, choose Fetch > Preferences .
    * Click on the Upload tab.
    * Make sure the "Default upload format" is set to "Automatic"

If it was not set to Automatic before, change it and try uploading the file again.

If it was already set to Automatic, let us know what application you created the file with so we can figure out why Fetch decided to upload it as a StuffIt file instead of a plain text file.

Also please let us know which version of Fetch you are using.

    Thanks,

The upload tab is and was on Automatic. I am using Fetch 5.0.4. The text is titled index.html.cwk created in AppleWorks. I've been using the same kind of document for years with no trouble at all. The computer world remains very strange to me.

    Thanks

    Hi Randy,

It sounds like the problem is you are saving the file as a ClarisWorks file instead of an HTML or text file. No web browser will know what to do with a file saved in ClarisWorks format (with a .cwk extension at the end).

If you have a "normal" ClarisWorks file that you want to convert to an HTML file (the kind of file web browsers understand), you should save the file as an HTML file.

If you have written the HTML code yourself in ClarisWorks, you should save the file as a text file.

    Do the following:

    * Open the file in ClarisWorks, and choose File > Save As.
    * At the bottom of the file save dialog, there should be a pop-up menu that says "File Fomat".
    * Choose either HTML or Text from it, depending on what you're trying to do (see above).
    * Enter the name index.html in the "Save As" field.
    * Click Save.
    * Upload the file with Fetch.

If you have other HTML files, you shold repeat this process with them.

Let us know if this doesn't fix the problem or if you have more questions.

    Thanks,
