upload problems (5 posts)

    I am trying to upload files to my server, and
    until recently never had a problem.
    suddenly I started noting that after logging in,
    I could load 2 or three files, then begin to get messages like
    "command not understood"
    here's a typical transcript

    but if I keep in PASV, I cannot log in to server 1 at
    all.

    so.what do I do?

    That's a tough situation. My guess is that the router you use to connect to the Internet has a bug that sometimes interferes with doing non-passive FTP. And this particular server requires non-passive FTP.

    There are two avenues you can follow to get around this problem. One is to ask the server administrator if they could support passive FTP. The other is to look into getting a different router, or at least upgrading the firmware of your router (if an update is available) to see if that makes any difference. I would be curious to know the brand and model number of the router your are using, for future reference.

    That's very odd -- I use an Airport Extreme Base Station and I've never seen that problem. I would be sure to install the latest software release for the base station, to see if that does any good.

    Thanks. I installed the latest firmware and now it appears to be working correctly.

    the installation is straightforward and covered in Apple's site and the Airport help file.
