Upload stops at 6.8mb every time ... (10 posts)

    Suddenly Fetch will not upload a media file over a 6.8mb limit: I assumed I'd run out of web space and bought more (not the problem anyway!); I have tried every which way to upload - drag and drop, put, mirror, same result. I have tried different files and checked for file corruption. I can upload smaller files, no problem. Anything over 6.8mb now just stops!!!

    Help please.

    Sorry - just worked out where error transcripts are - does this help?

    Hi Paul,

    This is a new problem, correct? You were previously able to upload large files to this same server without a problem?

    Assuming that it's new, and based on the transcript snippet you sent, the first thing I'm going to suggest is that you try restarting your network hardware and see if that helps; sometimes there is a problem in the modem or router that power cycling clears up.

    Here's the order we recommend doing things in:

    * Shut down your Mac.
    * Unplug your router or wireless base station (if you have one; a router is a device for sharing your Internet connection with multiple computers).
    * Unplug your cable/DSL modem.
    * Plug the cable/DSL modem back in, and wait about a minute for it to get completely started up.
    * Then plug the router or wireless base station back in, and wait another minute for it to start up.
    * Finally, start your Mac.

    Then try connecting and uploading to the problem server again.

    Let us know if that helps or not, if not, we can try to investigate further.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    I will try that now - have already tried rebooting mac - have updated software too. We had a Cable outage early - it may well have been since then ... yes could upload files there no problem. have just got error message: .. there is not enough space on the disk .. which is why I went and bought more space - but it's not true. Will try full shut down, but it's getting near bedtime here!

    No luck - same as before - no space error consistent now:

    227 Entering Passive Mode (62,233,64,124,30,176)
    Making data connection to 62.233.64.124 port 7856
    STOR RG 16 1 190609 edited.mp3
    550 RG 16 1 190609 edited.mp3: There is not enough space on the disk.
    ftp_store_setup: 2,-30004 (state == RPUT_SETTING_UP)
    retry_failed_operation derr = 2, -30004 retry_state = RPUT_SETTING_UP cancel_cur_cmd = 0 force_reconnect = 0 tw->retry_reconnect_count = 3 making_progress = 0, tw->retry_count = 4
    ABOR
    500 'BOR': command not understood

    Any more ideas for when I wake up???

    More info: have now tried uploading one of the problematic files to another web site - but same ISP, same server configuration - it seems fine!!!!!! Have double checked space - using 935mb out of 6 gb

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for the additional information and for trying those things.

    It sounds like there is something wrong with the server you are uploading it to; the fact that it's giving out of space error messages when you have just bought more space (and can see that you aren't even close to using all your space) is really indicative of a problem on the server's end.

    I suggest you contact the folks who run the server and have them look into the problem; be sure to mention that you're getting an out of space error even though you have plenty of space, and that the file uploads to other servers fine. (And that this problem just started recently.)

    Please let us know if you have more questions after talking to them.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    P.S. Even though you say the website it worked with is on the same ISP with the same server configuration, it's still entirely possible you're uploading to two different machines on their end, one of which has problems, and one that doesn't.

    Yep - it was the hosting ISP - who for once responded quickly and 'fessed up: I'm sorry for this error, your disk quota was not setup correctly. I have now increased the limit of the hosting space to 6GB so you will be able to upload files to your hosting space again.

    All is fine now, but thanks for the help: it's only when things don't work that you realise what a nice little programme Fetch is!!! And now you can go and listen to my latest radio shows at pdconair.com .... lol
