Did the Windows FTP client upload the file in ASCII mode (that would correspond to Fetch's Text format)?

No, the file was uploaded in binary mode.

Uploading in Raw Data format in Fetch is the same as uploading in binary mode with a Windows FTP client. So my guess is that the files were not the same to start with -- that transfering the file between the Mac and Windows machines made some change.

A client uploaded a Real Movie file (.rm) with Fetch 3 to a server which, when subsequently clicked to open, produces an error in RealPlayer. Uploading the same file on a Windows machine with a different FTP client works fine. In Fetch the file was uploaded "automatic" and "binary" (raw data) and neither worked. Thanks for the help...
