Uploading Files But Website Doesn't Change (4 posts)

I'm using domain.com and the Linux Hosting service to build my website. They provide me a login name and password to access the FTP. Their "Getting Started" instructions tell me to upload files into webspace/httpdocs/yourwebspace, and I did exactly that. I uploaded a html file (index.html) through Fetch, but the webpage itself doesn't change from the old/default page. Do you have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Catherine,

The first thing to check is to make sure your web browser isn't showing you a cached, out-of-date version of your webpage.

Web browsers keep copies of recently viewed webpages on your hard drive, so that they can load them quicker than reading them from the Internet again. They are supposed to notice when the pages have changed, and then load a new copy, but sometimes they make mistakes and continue to show you out-of-date copies.

The solution is to empty your web browser's cache, and then you should see the updated webpages. To do this in Safari:

    * Go to the Safari menu, and choose Empty Cache.
    * Safari will ask you if you're sure. Click the Empty button.
    * Then go to your website address, and view the pages to see if they look okay.

Let us know if that doesn't fix the problem.

    Thanks,

Thank you for the quick response. I actually contacted domain.com and found out that it was because there are specific requirements that domain.com requests in order for your website to start. I'll have to wait 24hrs to see if that solves the problem.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Hi Catherine,

You're welcome. Hopefully it'll all work once domain.com has done whatever it is they need to do.

Please let us know if you're still having problem after that, or have additional questions.

    Best,
