hi there! i'm trying to upload my files using fetch, and it looks like i'm doing something wrong... i'm hoping someone can help!

the website i'm trying to update was originally created using the templates in Doteasy. a few days ago, i decided to use iWeb from now on, and created an entirely new site using iWeb -- new content, new page names, etc. i followed doteasy's instructions to upload the pages using Fetch, but when i checked the site, it was still the old version. (and yes, i cleared my cache, and i still saw the old version.)

obviously i need to figure out where i'm erring. the reply from doteasy's technical support said i may not be replacing the index file correctly... all i'm doing now is, when fetch asks me what files to upload, i'm going to the folder with all of the web pages i created and clicking on the entire folder to transfer. do i need to be more specific in where i tell each new page to go?

    thanks so much!

    Hi,

The most common problem when trying to upload pages created with iWeb is that for your website to work correctly after you publish it to a folder, you need to upload the contents of the folder - but not the folder itself - to your server.

For example, let's assume your website is called "Family Trip", and when you use "Publish to a Folder," you tell iWeb to put its files in a folder called "My New Website."

Once iWeb is done, in the Finder you will see:

    My New Website (folder)
      index.html
      Family Trip (folder)

Inside the "Family Trip" folder will be folders and files corresponding to each page of your website.

For your website to work correctly, you must be sure to upload both that index file, and the website folder - that is, upload the entire contents of the "My New Website" folder, but don't upload the "My New Website" folder itself.

So my first advice would be to double-check and make sure that's what you're doing.

Let us know if this helps or not. If not, we'll investigate further.

    Thanks,

My first upload using fetch worked smoothly. However, after making changes to my site using iweb and uploading again, changes were not showing up on the site. I upgraded to fetch 3.0. I also noticed while the index file date in fetch changed appropriately, the site file date did not change. I deleted both the index and site from fetch and uploaded again. It appears all the files are there with the correct changes, but now my site online says page not found. Oh, dear. What can I do now?
    Thank you.

    Hi,

It sounds like you either did not re-upload your index.html file (after deleting the old one on the server) or that you uploaded it to the wrong folder on the server. I would double check that you are uploading to the right folder (Doteasy may refer to this as the web root folder; it's where the "root" of your website lives). Then try uploading the index.html file again, and see if your home page appears in your web browser. If it does, you'll want to upload the folder that contains the rest of your site to the same folder as index.html.

    Thanks,
