Fetch does not actually recognize your username and password -- it sends them to the server, and the server says whether they are accepted or not.
You can view the chit-chat between Fetch and the server when you connect by opening the Fetch Transcript window from the Window menu.
Does that answer your question?
Thanks,

Hi Jim
Thanks for that... useful to know, but I'm still having problems... I'm entering the ftp address, username and password exactly as detailed in my webspace provider's email, and keep getting a password login error. Very frustrating :-(

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window? It won't show the password you are entering.
Thanks,

The server is saying that the information is incorrect, and it's the only authority that matters. You should send that transcript to your webhost. It's possible that they gave you the wrong information, or changed the password.
Thanks,

Hi
I'm setting up a new website, and having some difficulty getting Fetch to recognise my username/password details.
However, I have another website through the same provider which is working just fine - though I vaguely recall there were some obscurer points when I set this up. Is there any way I can view the Fetch settings file which does work?
Thanks in advance from Glasgow, Scotland
Chris
