I have a client using a Watch Guard SOHO Firewall on a Road Runner connection. I instructed the user to use the PASV mode, but he states that several of the ISPs that he needs to upload web site information to require active mode to do the updates. any suggestions?

I'm seeing more of this problem, where a firewall on one end of the connection requires passive mode, while a firewall or server limitation on the other end does not allow it. The firewall vendors and administrators seem to think it's okay to break one of the two FTP transfer mechanisms (PASV or PORT), not realizing that the other one may be blocked at another point in the network.

My recommendation would be to look for a firewall product that supports both PORT and PASV.

    Thanks,
