Webpage uploading troubles for me too! (9 posts)

    I just switched to a Mac from a pc. I try to upload a page but it does not overwrite it. I connect and check the remote site view in DW 8 and it shows the change. But the page on the web does not show the changes. I use Websitesource for my host. I have submitted a trouble ticket for this with them. I go back to my pc with Smart FTP and try a change and it works as always.

    Hi Dan,

    So you are only seeing the problems when you use Fetch to upload the page?

    If you are using Fetch, we'd like some more information and we may be able to figure out what the problem is.

    Could you tell us the address (URL) of your website?

    And could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try uploading the page again.
    * Then choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks for the transcript. In the transcript, I see a successful download (Get) of a webpage; could you show us a transcript of trying to upload (Put) the page you're having trouble with?

    I think one possible explanation might be that I had selected the file in the window before putting. Don't know why I did that, being new to Fetch perhaps. I could upload through Dreamweaver so I will have that if all else fails.

    Also upon checking the page this morning in Safari I see that the page had reverted to what it was prior to my uploading with the Smart FTP. Very odd. I noticed also yesterday that the view of the files in Smart was different in the remote pane. Websitesource does things like this without telling you. Once they switched my server address without telling me.

    Hi Dan,

    Thanks for the second transcript.

    It shows the upload being successful, and it does look to me like you're uploading files to the correct folder, and that the file list in Fetch is showing a recent modification date, so from this data I'm not sure what the problem might be.

    When you said "I try to upload a page but it does not overwrite it," did you get an error from Fetch, or was it just that the webpage didn't show the changes when you looked at it in a browser?

    Can you give me an example of a page you uploaded using Fetch, but that does not show a change you expect it to? (Tell me what change I should be looking for.)

    I'm sorry not to have an immediate answer for you, but sometimes to figure these things out we have to go through several steps...

    Thanks Scott. I think Fetch is working correctly. It works when I upload to other sites, namely my magazine's ftp. I think there is something going on at Websitesource. I had uploaded the page with only a word changed and not long after it had reverted, by itself, to its previous form. If I find I am still having trouble after today I will update you, but I do think Fetch is working fine. I will press WSS for more info. Again, thanks for your help.
