I have set-up a mirror saving it with 'mirror automatically when opened' checked. Upon double clicking on the saved Mirror doc I am prompted for the FTP password. Why is this as I keyed it in when setting up the mirror?

Passwords aren't saved by default in mirror documents. You can add your password to the mirror document by editing it in BBEdit (it's really a text file) and typing the password between the : and @ characters in the URL. A better option is to enter the password in your system Keychain.

Jim, thanks for you reply. I tried what you suggested but it didn't work. I typed the passwork in to the mirror doc as you instructed but upon opening it in fetch the mirror dialogue opened and then when I clicked ok the passwork was rejected. What am I doing wrong?

What I am hoping to do is have a mirror doc in my system startup items that effectively does a site back-up automatically.

Have you tried saving a mirror document that runs automatically (i.e. check the "Mirror automatically when opened") box when you save the document? There's also a checkbox for saving the password, which I'd forgotten about. Also, have you unchecked the "Show New Connection window at startup" box in the Misc. section of Preferences?

    Thanks,

Thanks but this is still not working.

I did check the "Mirror automatically when opened". As a test I saved 2 mirror docs one with this checked and one without. Upon opening them in BBE there appeared to be no difference.

Where is this checkbox for saving the password?

I unchecked the "Show New Connection window at startup" as you suggested.

I hope we can crack this one as it will be really useful.

When you check the "Mirror automatically when opened" it should put the keyword "NOPROMPT" in the mirror document (on a line by itself).

The checkbox for saving the password should be right below the "Mirror automatically when opened" checkbox.

It might help to know what version of Mac OS you are running.

    Thanks,

Your question about what system I am using was the key to my problem. I am using 8.1 and by moving Fetch over to my 9.1 iMac the mirror works now.

How can I move my registration details to my iMac so that it doesn't run as a trial copy?

    Thanks for all your help.

If you choose "About Fetch" from the Apple menu on the 8.1 machine you'll see your serial number information, which you can enter into the copy on the iMac.
