PowerMac G4 QS with 10.3.9 OS. Fetch freezes with colour wheel for pointer tool when loading. I have deleted all prefs etc, and tried several versions of Fetch. Other FTP clients work fine but would ideally like to use fetch. Happens when logging in as another user also and have tried running Diskwarrior, running in safe mode and checked disk and permissions. Any advise would be grately appriciated.

    Hi,

We're sorry you're having trouble running Fetch. We'll try to figure out what's going on.

First, we'd like to double-check that you removed all the preferences - there can be up to 5 different preferences files that Fetch tries to load. Could you please do the following again, even if you've done it once before?

    * Make sure no version of Fetch is running (force quit them if necessary).
    * Choose "Home" from the Go menu in the Finder
    * Open the Library folder
    * Open the Preferences folder
    * Find and move all these files to your Desktop (do not trash them because we may want to look at them):
      Fetch Prefs
      Fetch Cache
      Fetch Shortcuts
      com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist
      com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.Shortcuts.plist
    * Then try running Fetch 5.2 again.

Let us know if this fixes the problem. If so, we'll want to look at the files to find out which was causing the problem. If not, we will investigate further.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

I've followed the instructions supplied but the same problem occurs after removing these preferences. The software seems to almost load and displays the first screen for selecting an FTP server to connect to. However at this point the application freezes and shows the colour wheel.

    Can you suggest anything further??

    Cheers

    Hi,

If you're willing, we'd like you gather some more information for us so we can try to figure out what is going on? We'd like a "sample" of Fetch when it's showing the rainbow cursor - this will tell us where in the code it's stuck.

Once Fetch starts showing the rainbow cursor, do the following:

    1) Run Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder)
    2) Choose Window > Activity Monitor
    3) Find Fetch in the list of processes (you can type Fetch into the "Filter" field to show only Fetch)
    4) Select the Fetch entry, and click the Inspect button
    5) In the new window that appears, click the Sample button
    6) Click Save... to save the sample
    7) Send the saved file, along with a short description of your problem, to us at: bugs at fetchsoftworks.com

Thanks, and please let us know if you have any questions about these steps.

Did you ever fix roonster's problem... I'm having the same thing happen with me, except it completely locks up my Mac, can't even force quit.

    Hi kashyyyk,

We're sorry you're having trouble with Fetch.

Have you tried removing the preferences as I described above?

And are you trying to run Fetch 5.2, our latest version?

    Thanks,

Just got 5.2.1 today, so I'll see what that does.

    Hello Scott,
Since updating Fetch hasn't crashed or locked up once!

    Thanks a bunch
