    When I type in the hostname, username and passoword I don't get connected

    but when my brother does on his computer, it goes through.

    I just purchased Fetch to have access to his server.

    Help?

    thanks!

    Hi Vana,

    Is your brother's sever on his home network?

    If so, it could be that he hasn't set it up properly to be accessed by outside his home network - since he's on his network, he would be able access it regardless.

    But if that doesn't seem to be the case, could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Try connecting to your server.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and see if we can advise further.

    Thanks,

    I am seeing something similar when I try to save a shortcut.

    In my case, I can open an FTP connection to my site, ftp.turtlelane.com.au. However, when I try and save the shortcut after using New Shortcut, when I type the username I get the message

    These settings cannot be used because the server is unreachable.

    Now I know this is not true because, as I said, I can open the ftp window using File/New Connection.

    Hi Bobj,

    This error actually likely indicates a problem creating the shortcut, not in reaching the server. The likely source of the problem is that Fetch could not save the password to the Mac OS X keychain, which Fetch uses to securely store the passwords for your shortcuts and recent connections.

    Please do the following to check for and repair problems with the keychain:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open the Keychain Access application, which is in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder.
    * Go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Preferences.
    * Click on the "First Aid" tab.
    * Make sure both "Synchronize login keychain password" and "Set login keychain as default" are checked.
    * Then go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Keychain First Aid.
    * In the password field of the Keychain First Aid window, enter your Mac OS X admin password (this should be the same as your Mac OS X login password).
    * Click the Repair radio button.
    * Click the Start button.
    * Once it's done, close the Keychain First Aid window.
    * Restart your Macintosh.

    Then try creating a shortcut in Fetch again.

    Let us know if you're still having problems after doing this.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi Jax,

    It looks like the password for the "ftp-c" account at ftp.creative-tops.com that is stored in your keychain is incorrect. You should find out what the correct password is, and then make a manual connection to the server with Fetch, checking the "Add to Keychain" checkbox so the correct password will be saved. Then your shortcut should start working again.

    Hi Tim,

    You are connecting to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com, which is a server that we maintain as an example. As you discovered, it lets anyone log in without a password.

    To actually accomplish something with Fetch you want to enter the Hostname, Username and Password for an account that belongs to you. You would get the Hostname, Username and Password information from the people who maintain the server. For instance, if you are using Fetch to maintain a website, you would get that information from the web hosting company.

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

    when I try to access fetch, it is said that my host name, username and password are incorrect.
    I use the informations that were given by Doteasy

    Hostname: ftp.esem.ca
    username: hmartinez
    and then the same password as with Doteasy.

    Otherwise,it means I have forgotten my password.
    Primo: Is it the good way to proceed?
    secondo: If I have forgotten my password, how can I get it, or change i?

    Thank you (sorry for my english, it is not my spoken language, Hope you can understand my question though).

    Hi Hélène,

    You should tell Doteasy that the information you have is not working for logging in with FTP, and ask them for the correct information. They should be able to help you.

    Hi,

    You would get that information from the company that runs the server you are trying to connect to. For example, if you are using Fetch to upload a website, you would talk to the web hosting provider.

    I cannot get past this notice:
    THESE SETTINGS CANNOT BE USED BECAUSE YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO SAVE A FILE THERE.
    I've read both threads I've found on the subject. This one, and one that is about two years old. I've run first aid on my key chain and I'm still not able to access my website.
    I have changed to a new start up disk, which is very much like going to a whole new computer. I have copied the application support files and the preferences from my old start up disk to my new one.

    Any more suggestions?
    Regards.

    It sounds like there's a problem with the server setup, perhaps with the home directory that is specified. As part of the login process the server probably tries to access the user's home directory, and it sounds like it's getting an error.
