When I download a text file from my UNIX server to my Mac (running OS X 10.1) I find that it opens (in BBEdit) with a blank line between every line that should be there. I'm not sure how to determine what character this is, but is shows as a carriage return (r) - so I get TWO r in a row.

I notice that BBEdit thinks this is a Macintosh file - not UNIX. I normally now save files in UNIX mode.

If I use the "open with BBEdit" command in Fetch the file appears as it should (no extra CR). If I open the file from BBEdit (Open from FTP server...) it appears as it should.

I have tried setting the download mode to 'text' instead of automatic, with no change I can see.

Is there any way to tell Fetch that these files should be left as UNIX files and not translated to Macintosh line endings - as I assume it's doing?

    Thanks,
    Nelson

If you set the download mode to Binary Fetch will not do any line ending translation.
