    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try uploading again.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    The usual cause of that problem is that you have uploaded not quite the right thing to your server. For websites created with iWeb to work correctly once you upload it, after you publish your website to a folder, you need to upload the contents of the folder - but not the folder itself - to your server.

    For example, let's assume your website is called "Family Trip", and when you use "Publish to a Folder," you tell iWeb to put its files in a folder called "My New Website."

    Once iWeb is done, in the Finder you will see:

    My New Website (folder)
      index.html
      Family Trip (folder)

    For your website to work correctly, you must be sure to upload both the index file, and the folder with the name of your website - that is, upload the entire contents of the "My New Website" folder, but don't upload the "My New Website" folder itself.

    It may be best to delete the files that you've already uploaded to the server and start fresh before trying again.

    We have step by step instructions on using Fetch to upload websites created with iWeb - it may be helpful to read it over if you haven't already; it also links to a help topic that suggests solutions to common problems.

    If you're still having problems after looking this over, please let us know and we'll try to figure it out.

    Thanks,

    Hi Fred,

    Most likely you are receiving this message because the server doesn't allow you to upload files to the folder you're trying to upload them to. It looks like you're trying to upload them to your "root" folder, which some servers don't allow. Instead they require you to put your files in a specific folder.

    You should contact the people or company and ask them which folder you should use to upload your files to; they are the best people to answer that. You can then switch to another folder in Fetch by double-clicking the folder's icon in the Fetch window.

    Please let us know if you have further questions after talking to the folks who run the server.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire
