Do the files have names that end in .htm or .html? That's what tells the server to send them down as HTML (rather than text).
It might help to post the URL of your site.

After I upload all of the files for my webpage to the server I can get the homepage to work but when I click on a link the html for the desired page is all that is displayed.
why is this?
