I'm having a problem with PDF files uploaded by Fetch 4.0.1. When users try to view them, all they see is a blank document. The same files uploaded with Fetch 3.0.3 (from the same computer, uploaded to the same server) work fine. Both Fetch 4 and 3.0.3 are configured to use Internet Config to determine the upload mode.

    Any idea what's going on?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Actually Fetch 3.0.3 does not know how to use Internet Config to pick upload formats, so that may be the difference. Check your Internet Config file mappings to make sure that they identify PDF files as binary (not text).

Thanks for the help Jim. I checked the Internet Config setting for pdf, and sure enough, it was set for Text. Duh. Setting it to binary fixed the problem.

But I'm still a little confused about something.

In Fetch 3.0.3, when I open the Preferences dialog box, under the "General" tab, there is a check box that says "Use Internet Config". When this box is checked, and I select "Suffix Mapping..." from the "Customize" menu, I get a message that says that Fetch is "currently configured to use Internet Config's Suffix Mappings".

So, is it true that, even with settings described above, Fetch 3.0.3 is *not* using Internet Config to pick the upload mode? And that one must deselect "Use Internet Config" and then specify the suffix mapping in Fetch itself? If that's the case, that would explain why Fetch 3.0.3 worked (set to binary for pdf), while Fetch 4 didn't (used internet config - text).

Fetch 3.0.3 did not have an "Automatic" setting for upload formats -- you had to choose them manually (or Fetch would use the default in the Upload section of Preferences). Setting the upload format based on the file type or extension is a new feature in Fetch 4.0.
