Can't delete old files (9 posts)

THere are about 10 old files sitting in my online file folder. Fetch will not let me delete them. I get a message as follows: 550 SITE CHMOD command failed.
    ftp_cmd/ftp_user: 2,-30000 (state == SETTING_PERMS)

I have tried changing Permissions but it won't let me. How can I delete these files please?

    Hi,

It sounds like you'll need to contact the folks who run the server and ask them to delete the files for you, that is usually the only option in cases like these. (Fetch doesn't have much flexibility in deleting files - all it can do is ask the server to delete files, and if the server says "no, I can't delete them," there isn't another approach for Fetch to take.)

Please let us know if you have more questions after talking to them.

    Thanks,

Thanks Scott. The interesting thing is when I log into my onlinefilefolder via Explorer and not Fetch, the files do not appear. It is only in FEtch that I see them. I have refreshed and still they appear.

    Hi,

If you've refreshed the file list in Fetch and they still show up, then the files are on you server somewhere - when you choose the refresh command, Fetch asks the server to give it the current list of files for the folder you are viewing. So Fetch is listing exactly what the server told it was there.

Perhaps you aren't looking at the same folder in Explorer as in Fetch (there might be two similarly named folders on the server), or perhaps the web interface is deliberately not showing you the files for some reason.

    Thanks,

Thanks. It is the same folder since there is only one. I will contact Godaddy.com who set it up. Appreciate your time.

    Hi,

I would like to know if you can change the permissions of a folder other than "View informations" - "CHMODE : ###", because I've made the mistake of typing 000 and don't have no more access to the folder.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

On many servers, you can continue to change the permissions of a folder even if you've changed it to 000, so you should try to change it to something else if you haven't already.

If you get an error when you attempt to use Fetch to set permissions on the problem folder, the only option is to contact the company or person who runs the server and ask them to fix the problem for you.

    Thanks,
