    I cannot access another's account to download a file. in fact when ever i try to access even my own ftp server, i get the same error message. (once, luckily i did get through and it was saved in the "recent connections"

    i am operating osx 10.3.2 and the following is my most recent transcript:

    The problem with your most recent attempt to connect to ftp4.itsamac.com is that 4 was entered as the port number to connect to, and that's incorrect. You should be able to connect with "ftp4.itsamac.com" in the Host field and nothing in the "Non-standard port number" field.

    it worked! thanks...for some reason fetch always defaults to the non-standard fault number 4.

    If Fetch is filling in that field with a "4" automatically you must have a default shortcut with that specified. To fix that, follow these steps:

    1) Choose "Fetch Shortcuts" from the Window menu.
    2) Click on the shortcut in question and choose "Edit Shortcut..." from the Customize menu.
    3) Remove the "4" and press OK.
