Today we released Fetch 5.7.4, a bug-fix update to Fetch 5.7. This release fixes a number of small bugs, including a couple cosmetic issues with OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

    The changes in 5.7.4 are:

    • Adopted OS X Mavericks code signing
    • Fixed a compatibility problem with some versions of the Bulletproof FTP server
    • Fixed a compatibility problem with the LIST -al command and some FTP servers
    • Fixed a problem creating folders on some SFTP servers
    • Fixed a problem resizing windows from the top edge
    • Fixed a problem uploading files to some SFTP servers
    • Fixed a problem where .DS_Store files were included in uploads
    • Fixed a problem with choosing a default shortcut
    • Fixed a problem with slow scrolling on OS X Mavericks
    • Fixed a version number compatibility issue with some software distribution systems
    • Improved stop button appearance on OS X Yosemite

Fetch 5.7.4 is a free update if you purchased your Fetch license after January 28, 2009; otherwise an upgrade is $10, and a new license is $29. Fetch 5.7.4 is compatible with Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 or newer, including OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

Please download Fetch 5.7.4 from the Fetch Download page, or by choosing Check for Update… from the Fetch menu in an earlier version, and let us know what you think of the new release.

Fetch 5.7.4 is not yet available from the Mac App Store. I will post an update when it becomes available.

I got a message to upgrade Fetch to 5.7.4 today. I had been working on a client's site with the older version. The first time I used 5.7.4 to upload an update to his site (this morning), the site blew up. My client uses Yahoo Small Business, and that was throwing "error 999" messages, indicating possible security problems. (I have a note into them about it.) An hour later, I got the HTML content of the site to display live, but no CSS formatting. Later still, I got the same Yahoo security message. I found an earlier copy of Fetch, 5.7.3, and used it to upload the new .html and .css files, and it worked fine. I can't say it is a problem with 5.7.4, but it's the only difference in the workflow, and I thought I should bring it to your attention. The client's site is www.17pizzas.com. It's not pretty, which is why I am redoing it, but it works.

There's probably a better place to post this, but I was here and decided to try. Excuse my laziness. Just wondering if there is a way with Fetch to search for, say, a file or an image on the server. I have a WP site and it is a whuppin' to try to find things sometimes, as you may know. Great product. Been using it a long time. Thanks.

I am working with Yosemite and I am having an issue with dragging and dropping files into Fetch 5.7.4. Is anyone else having the same issue?

    Hi,

I've had one other report of this, but I haven't seen it in our testing. What model Mac do you have? What happens when you try to drag files from the Finder to a Fetch transfer window?

    Thanks,

I upgraded to 5.7.4 yesterday and updated a few files. Now I can't even access my site - I get this message: The requested URL /Eighth_Day_Institute/Home.html was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I work from IWeb so I put the whole folder of the site back in - it took way longer than usual and it didn't fix the problem. I am not tech savvy at all so I really have no idea what to do.

Since switching to Yosemite last week, Fetch 5.7.4 is stuffing some PageSpinner 5.2.1 files on upload. Help!

    Edited 9 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. To work around the problem, upload the files in Text or Binary (Raw Data) format rather than Automatic format.

Could you contact me at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com and send me an example of a PageSpinner file that Fetch is stuffing? Compress the file (using the Compress command in the File menu of the Finder, which will turn it into a zip archive) before emailing it, to preserve all its information.

    Thanks again,

    Hi,
I have Fetch 5.7.4 and just upgraded to Yosemite. I am having a problem with uploading files. I can access my website and see all the files no problem. However, when I click on the "PUT" button a massive dialog box opens that can only be resized from right or left. The bottom of the box extends well beyond the bottom of the screen and can't be resized. I have tried command -, but that does not work and I can't see any items in the menu that might help. How can I resize this box so it fits on my screen, so I can upload files ?

    Hi,

It sounds like the preferences file was corrupted with an improper remembered size for that dialog. The simplest fix would be to delete the preferences file. To do that:

    1) Quit Fetch, if it's open
    2) In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder…" from the Go menu
    3) Enter

    ~/Library/Preferences

    and click Go
    4) Located the file named com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist and drag it to the trash
    5) Open Fetch and check to see if the problem is fixed

The downside to this fix is that you will lose other preference settings, such as the recent connections list. If you want to preserve that information email me the preferences file (at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com), and I will send you back a copy without the corrupt window size entry.

    Thanks,

    Hi FBB,

Is there an error message when you try to access your server FTP?

    Thanks,

No error message, just a massive dialog box which can't be resized at the bottom because that is below the screen. It only occurs in Fetch and no other software on my computer.

I am using Fetch 5.7.4 on Mac OS Yosemite. Two days ago, there is something happen. I could not connect my homepage site through the Fetch. An error message is "because the FTP server dropped the connection". Until then, there was no problem even after I upload to Yosemite. I am using Fetch on other computer which has Mac OS Tiger and it does not show any problem to connect to same site. So, is there any problem with Yosemite?

    Hi,

Are you running Norton? There are reports that a November 27 update to Norton breaks FTP connections:

I'm experiencing problems with opening Fetch, very slow. If it does open the software just freezes. Using latest Fetch and Macs OS Yosemite. I have not changed anything or installed any new software.

Hi Jim, congratulations for your app. I'd like to know whether or not there's a way to change Fetch UI. Please don't take this suggestion as if it meant I don't like the current UI, it's nice, but I'd change, e. g., the appearance and text color of buttons. Thanks.

    Hi sipina,

I'm not aware of a way to change the appearance of Fetch UI items. There used to be utilities for doing that sort of thing on Classic Mac OS but I don't know of any that work these days.

    Sorry,

fetch does not work on my Yosemite...
    Could you help?

    STEPS:
    File -> New Connection
    hostname: my server
    username: existing yousername
I ma trying to go to password field but... dialog window always appears:
"These settings cannot be used because server is unreachable" (...)

After closing this window (OK button) I can write the valid password.
Then sometimes it works but generally not...
If not the same dialog appears but within dark oval (Can I send screen?) The only I can then is to kill the application...

I do not what happened... But Fetch worked without troubles on 10.7 & 10.8 & 10.9....
