It looks like the server does not support passive mode transfers, while Fetch 4.0.1 has a bug on Mac OS X that makes them almost mandatory. The solution is to wait for Fetch 4.0.2, which should be available for testing later this week, and officially released next month.
Thanks,

I keep getting this same error message, which I can cure only temporarily by trashing Fetch preferences. I hope that 4.0.2 is issued momentarily!

Fetch 4.0.2b1 can be downloaded from:
http://getfetch4.com/Fetch_4.0.2b1.sit
It will expire on May 1, and the official release of 4.0.2 should be available by then.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

When I try to connect to my school's Windows 2000 FTP server I get the error Server REsponce: Can't open data connection. Why? How do I fix this? I have Fetch 4.01 and OS 10.1.3
