The usual way to make this work is to set up port forwarding on the router so that connections to port 21 on the router are forwarded to port 21 on the server. Then connect to the router's IP address, with "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" unchecked in Fetch Preferences.

Hi:
I'm setting up a remote file server for off-site backup purposes. I've installed PureFTP Server software on the remote and use Fetch 5.1 for access. The problem is that I can't determine a correct IP address to make the connection remotely. I assume that a 2-part address is needed, router first then the server's internal IP address. But the nonenclature of a typical address of this sort doesn't work in Fetch because of the colon separator. Since this isn't a web server, there is not web URL. How do I get in?
Thanks,
Charlie
