macOS 10.13.4 and Fetch (2 posts)

    10.13.3 is released, and 10.13.4 beta is available. One change in 10.13.4 is that you are shown a dialog box when opening certain applications, that says, roughly: Opening xxx may affect the performance of your Mac.

    Fetch 5.7.7 gets one of those dialogs. Of course, it runs fine, I suspect that the dialog is an early warning sign that some OS APIs may get dropped one of these days. It may relate to the dropping of 32 bit apps:

    Yes, Apple has warned developers that the next major release (presumably to be numbered 10.14, and to be released this fall) will not run 32-bit apps like Fetch 5.7.7 "without compromises". This warning in 10.13.4 is another reminder of that upcoming change.

    We have been working on a 64-bit version of Fetch for quite a while, but unfortunately it is not close to being ready to release. I am pondering our options as this deadline approaches.
