My first suggestion would be to change the setting of the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences, and then try connecting again.
If that doesn't help could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents?

I was having the same problem and turning off the PASV worked like a charm. Thank you!

this has happened before. i try to connect and the dog just keeps running. i left it over 10 minutes and never got an error message or anything. it just won't connect. thanks.
