    When I try to connect to my server. I recieve an error message saying the server has dropped the connection. But other users have been able to log into my server using my details.

    After you dismiss that error message could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents of that window? It may contain clues as to what's going wrong.

    Thanks,

    Have you ever been able to connect to this server? When did things change?

    The transcript makes it look as if the connection is being dropped right after your password is sent. I can't think of a reason why that would happen for you but not for someone else using the same account.

    Thanks,

    I use an adsl phone line provided by BT and the adsl account with btconnect provides webspace. When I try to login in using adsl I recieve an error. But if I dial up using a normal dial connection I am able to login?

    I have spoken to BT about this and they are baffeled and suggested i upgrade my system. But this is an expensive option with no guaranteed solution to my problem.

    I would be grateful if you could shed some light on why this may be happening!

    I have the same problem with my connection using the BT ADSL line, and I have already upgraded it and I still can't make a connection.

    Nobody from BT can give me an explanation as to why I can't connect using Fetch, except that there is something wrong with Fetch software. It is very frustrating.

    Acanthus: Could you post your transcript? Are you also running Mac OS 9?

    aorrow and Acanthus: You could try a different FTP client, like Transmit from Panic (http://www.panic.com) to see if the problem is specific to Fetch. You might have more luck talking with BT if you could report that it isn't just an issue with one Mac FTP client.

    I have exactly the same problem with an adsl connection to BT. It appeared the moment I switched from a dialup connection to adsl. Where there were no problems before, now, every time I get the error message "error: the server dropped the connection (it may be to busy)". I have checked, and I know I'm entering the correct details. My transcript ends with:

    Connecting to home.btconnect.com port 21 (02/12/2003 12:10:52)
    220 c2bhome2 FTP server (Version wu-2.4(9) Tue Jul 16 20:47:46 BST 2002) ready.
    USER [my_user_name]
    331 Password required for [my_user_name].
    PASS
    230- WARNING
    get_reply():con_conn->Getline() returns -3253

    In addition, I have tried Fetch, Transmit, Interarchy and HeftyFTP. They all drop the connection with error messages indicating that something unusual has occurred.

    The only way I have found to ftp to the BT servers on adsl is via this link:

    https://secure.isandt.com/wwwftp/ftp.cgi

    ..but this is *extremely* slow (even on adsl) and I can't seem to "get" files at all.

    Surely someone, somewhere, can at least work out what is happening?

    Perhaps I should have mentioned that BT don't appear to have a clue what's causing this.

    It certainly seems as if the BT FTP server has a problem with connections over ADSL, at least from Macs.

    How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

    Hefty ftp gives me:
    * Connect Status 802
    * Status 802
    ...just before the drop. It reminds me of something... to do with a wireless connection?
