For the past two days I've been trying to upload files to a Host that two of my client accounts are at and keep getting the window "Server Response: Can't open data connection." I upload to my other client accounts that aren't this particular Host and have no problem. The Host says everything is OK on their end. There was one time though I did get through and when I clicked on a folder the Server Response window came up again. It's a mystery because this problem just started to occur, never had problems before.

My first guess would be that this server has a firewall that doesn't allow passive mode transfers. Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after seeing the problem? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to reveal it.

    Thanks,

Here is part of the code from the transcript window.

    SYST
    215 UNIX Type: L8
    PWD
    257 "/" is current directory.
    MACB ENABLE
500 'MACB ENABLE': command not understood.
    PWD
    257 "/" is current directory.
    PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (deleted numbers)
    LIST
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.

Then folders do come up and when I click on web I get that window again.

Here is the rest of the code

    226 Transfer complete.
    CWD web
    250 CWD command successful.
    PWD
    257 "/web" is current directory.
    PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (deleted numbers)
    LIST
    425 Can't open data connection.
    ftp_list: -30000 (state == GETTING_LIST)
    PWD
    257 "/web" is current directory.
    PWD

I turned off passive mode in the Firewall and it's working OK now. I tried that yesterday and it didn't work. Today it is. Thanks for your help. Case solved!
