System Mac OS X 10.3.9. Fetch has been consistently stalling small and large files. Often times then I lose my internet connection and my computer crashes. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

We'd like some more information to help investigate your problem.

Do you lose your Internet connection and your computer crashes right after Fetch stalls? Or is this just something that happens from time to time, whether you're using Fetch or not?

If you have not restarted your computer in a while, I would try restarting it and seeing if that fixes the problem. (Go to the blue apple menu, and choose Restart.)

Finally, what version of Fetch are you using?

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

I am working with Fetch 5.1. I also have a wireless connection. Well, usually fetch stalls after it has either just started or is almost finishing putting a file on to the server. It does not matter if it is a large file or a small file. It varies each time. I never know if it will work. Then I try to get back on to the internet and I cannot. I usually try to restart my computer and my computer freezes. After fetch stalls I cannot get back on to the internet. I must restart or reboot my mac.

    Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the additional information. That sounds pretty inconveninent, and I apologize for the trouble.

The first thing I'd recommend is trying out our recently released upgrade, Fetch 5.2. It's a free upgrade for you. One thing we specifically tried to address with the upgrade was stalling problems. You can download it from our home page at http://fetchsoftworks.com .

Let us know if it makes a difference or not. If not, we'll investigate further and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

I downloaded the latest Fetch software and I am having the same problem. I tried sending a 6mb file through fetch and it stalled after transferring 4mb. Then I tried to get back on to the internet and I could not. I was forced to reboot my computer.

    Any suggestions now?

    Hi Melissa,

Sorry to hear that Fetch 5.2 didn't help.

The next time you try to transfer a file and it stalls, could you please post a transcript from Fetch for us? That might give us some clues about what's going on.

To do this, after the transfer stalls, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

    Hi Melissa,

    Thanks for the transcript.

Some more questions for you (sorry).

Does any of the file transfer, or does it usually stall out right away?

Have you been able to use Fetch successfully before, and this is a new problem? Or have you always had problems like this?

You're connected using a wireless connection, is that correct? Can you tell us more about your Internet set up? Do you use an Apple Airport, or something else, for the wireless Internet?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

It stars to transfer and then quits out. The message is usually that it stalls or that I lost internet connection.

    ALWAYS!!!!

Yes, wireless. I use a D-Link USB adapter on a G4 MAC. I think that may be my problem. I don't think I have an airport card.

Do you think it would help if I connected directly to the modem using my ethernet?

    HELP!!!

    Hi Melissa,

Yes, the next thing to try would be to connect your Mac directly to the modem with Ethernet and see if that works better. Bad interactions with a wireless router can cause this sort of problem.

Let us know if that sorts out the problem or not.

    Thanks,
