upload transfer stalls, won't complete (2 posts)

    Hi, I've been trying to upload a 515MB .omf file through Fetch. (I'm on a Powerbook g4 laptop, Mac OSX 10.3.4, 800 MHz porcessor, 1MB cache, 1GB SDRAM, hardwired to a Roadrunner highspeed ethernet internet connetion).

    The upload goes for a while (1-2 hours) then stalls every time, at different points of the transfer. The dog freezes.I checked "keep connection alive" under preferences, and tried again ... this time it almost made it ... then stalled again. The bottom line reads:

    putting (file name) as binary data.
    461.8 of 515.9 mb, 34.6kB/sec (stalled).

    Small files go through fine.

    (I've tried this on Vicomsoft as well and it stalls too, only more frequently!)

    How can I un-stall the transfe?? Isn't there some way to ask the software to continue without having to delete the file and start over? I've been doing that repeatedly but it takes hours every time then stalls before the file is complete. If I hit stop the transfer stops and the file shows up at the size it got up to before stalling (ie incomplete).

    Hi Beth,

    You should try checking the "Contact server during long transfers" checkbox in the Obscure pane of the Fetch Preferences and see if that solves the problem.

    If not, Fetch 5 does offer a way to continue uploading a partially uploaded file, but not all servers support the feature. You can try and see if your server supports it if this problem happens again. To use it:

    * Click on the Put button in the Toolbar, or choose Remote > Put from the menus.
    * Select the Macintosh file that you want to continue uploading.
    * Choose "Resume upload of file" from the "If a file already exists" menu.
    * Click on the Put button.

    If your server supports the feature, the file should continue uploading from where it last left off. If it does not support the feature, you will get an error.

    Let us know if either of these suggestions helps.
