Uploads stop after a couple of files (11 posts)

I just upgraded to a new G5 Mac with Tiger from a G4 running Sysytem 9.2. I upgraded Fetch to the OSX version. When I try to upload files, some will be successful, then it will stop at the full upload and go no further. I have tried all the suggestions in the Help Guide to no avail. The older System 9 version of Fetch had no problems.

Any suggestions on getting this to work? My business relies on these uploads

Are the files that fail bigger than the ones that succeed? Do the transfers take more than 5 minutes?

It would help to see a transcript of the problem. To get the transcript, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu when you see the problem.

    Thanks,

If you try again will it always stop at the same file, or will it fail on a different file?

    Thanks,

When I tried it again it froze one file earlier - 01-Army-Late2003-24.JPG. It does not seem to happen at the same point each time. It has even done it with single files, but mainly with the mutiple files.

I can think of a few things to try next:

    1) Find out if Tripod supports SFTP uploads. If they do, you might find them to be more reliable.

    2) Try a different FTP client, to see if the problem is specific to Fetch. For example, you could try Interarchy.

    3) Collect more information about the problem. The next thing I'd want to see is a packet trace (which would show exactly what is happening on the network). I can give you directions on how to do that.

    Thanks,

1.I have e-mailed them to see if they support sftp.

2.I tried Interarchy and the same thing happened

    3.Please give me the instructions

Why would this not work via OSX but it was not a problem under OS9?

    Thanks

    Posted 18 years ago #

There are instructions for collecting a packet trace at http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1176.html . Basically, you want to run Terminal and type this command:

    sudo tcpdump -i en0 -s 0 -w DumpFile.dmp

You will then be prompted for the computer's administrator password. When you want it to stop collecting traffic you would type Control-C; the packet trace would be stored in the file named DumpFile.dmp. Note that your FTP password will be captured. You can email the DumpFile.dmp file to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com.

I do not know why this would work reliably on Mac OS 9 and not on X.

    Thanks,

FYI, I sent the transcript to my ISP and turns out I'd run out of room. No wonder the files stopped uploading. That may be Patto's problem too.

I have plenty of disk space and it still happens. It seems to be problem with Tripod itself, but I need to communicate with them to see if they can fix it.
