I have been trying to upload a website and when I try to upload a folder, such as the "_notes" folder produced by dreamweaver, it won't let me upload it. I get an error message that says

"Server response: The name you specified is not allowed. Names must contain only ASCII letters (a-z,A-Z), digits (0-9), underscore, dot and dash. Names must not start with a dot (.) or dash (-). For additional info please visit:"

I think my folders are named correctly (one is named "_notes", and another "portfolio") but for some reason they won't upload. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks for any help

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you get the error -- it will indicate exactly which name the server is objecting to. Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to open it.

    Thanks,

Apparently the error message isn't quite accurate, and underscore character is not allowed at the beginning of a file or directory name. Do you know if the _notes folder is required for your website (or if Dreamweaver can be configured to use a different name)?

    Thanks,

I think that the notes folder is necessary, but the name could possibly be changed. However I still have problems uploading other folders that are named in only lowercase letters with no other symbols at all. I think it may be a problem with my hosting service, I have emailed them several times without response. I just wish they could be as helpful as you are being. I really appreciate it. I will keep attempting contact with my hosting service for now, unless you have any other suggestions. Thanks
