We are pleased to report that Fetch 5.6, the current release, works well with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
We have identified two compatibility issues that may affect some users:
- The Fetch Dashboard Widget does not work under Lion, and we recommend that users use droplet shortcuts instead.
- Due to a bug in Automator in Lion, users may see -1708 errors when opening or saving Automator workflows including certain combinations of Fetch Automator actions. We have reported this problem to Apple, and hope it will be addressed in a future system update.
I’ve just purchased and installed 5.6 after a long absence from Fetch (2004!)
I am running Lion and Fetch hangs on me every time I try to edit a file. It does open in the selected editor but then just displays the constantly spinning beach ball.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this problem. Is your editor SubEthaEdit? We have seen this problem with the latest version of SubEthaEdit, and have reported it to The Coding Monkeys. You can file a report at https://codingmonkeys.bugshelf.com/public/report/SEEM (more reports might encourage them to address the problem sooner). You might consider using a different editor (e.g. TextWrangler, TextMate, BBEdit) in the meantime.
If you are using a different editor please let me know and I will investigate.

Fetch Softworks
I am upgrading from Tiger OS 10.4.11 to Lion. I’ve used Fetch 5.3 for a long time without issue. In preparation for the switch I see there are issues to be concerned about. You suggest a workaround for the widget problem but I don’t know what “droplet shortcuts” are. Please explain. I also do not know what ‘Automator workflows’ are. Insight here would also be appreciated.
Hi Debbie,
You’ll want to upgrade from Fetch 5.3 to 5.3.1; you can download that from http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download and it’s a free upgrade.
Droplet shortcuts are mini-applications that you can put in any folder on your Mac, or even in your Dock. You can drag files or folders to the droplet shortcut and they will be uploaded. For more information, see:
http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/help/Contents/Concepts/DropletShortcuts.html
Automator workflows are a way to automate file transfer tasks. If you aren’t using them you don’t have to worry about them :).

I’m very surprised to see a blog post like this, because Fetch has been terribly unreliable for me on Lion. I’ve made a clean install of Lion and downloaded a fresh copy of Fetch from your site, to no avail.
Everytime a document is edited, for instance in SubEthaEdit, Fetch hangs for a long while before throwing a generic “Fetch could not edit…” because of error -1712 (I’ve seen another in the -6** range).
I’ve seen a few problems like this, and enough to make me drop back to Terminal for my ftp needs.
Hi Matt,
As you can see in the comments above, there is a problem with SubEthaEdit on Lion. I encourage you to file a report at https://codingmonkeys.bugshelf.com/public/report/SEEM ; the more reports they get the more likely this problem will be resolved quickly.
We would like to hear the details of any other problems you see on Lion. You can post details here or use our feedback form: http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback
Thanks,

Fetch Softworks
Hi,
I cannot upload large files (over 200MB) with Fetch on Lion. After it gets to about half way through the upload is restarted. This keeps going in a loop until I cancel the upload process.
Hi Andy,
When you see this problem could you choose “Fetch Transcript” from the Window menu and then send us the contents using the feedback form at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback ? We will try to figure out what is going on with your uploads.

Jim,
I’m sorry, tried and tried but could not reproduce the error. Perhaps it had something to do with that specific file I was trying to upload (fly movie – weighed about 250MB).
Thanks for your quick response and for wanting to resolve the problem. Looking forward to the next release of Fetch.
– Andy
I am using Latex to edit files from Fetch and am getting an error 1712 after not responding for a while. Specifically I am using TexShop version 2.43.
Thanks!
