Your best friend for file transfer.
FetchIf you use multiple Macintosh computers, you may want the same Fetch shortcuts on each computer. To accomplish this, you can use the Dropbox file sharing service. You have to use Fetch 5.7 or later on all computers to be able to take advantage of Dropbox syncing of shortcuts.
To begin, if you are not already using Dropbox, you need to install it (it's free!). Follow the instructions on the Dropbox website and return to Fetch when Dropbox is ready.
With Dropbox installed, you are ready to sync your Fetch shortcuts. First go to the Macintosh where your Fetch shortcuts currently are:
- Open Fetch.
- Choose Shortcuts > Show Shortcuts.
- Choose File > Save a Copy As.
- Check Make these my default shortcuts.
- Click the disclosure button to reveal the list of files and folders.
- In the sidebar on the left, click on your home folder.
- In the list on the right, double-click on your Dropbox folder.
- Click Save.
Next, give Dropbox a minute or two to sync your shortcuts, then go to a Macintosh with which you want to share your Fetch shortcuts:
- Open Fetch.
- Choose File > Open.
- In the sidebar on the left, click on your home folder.
- In the list on the right, double-click on your Dropbox folder.
- In the list on the right, click your Fetch Shortcuts file.
- Click Open.
- A prompt will appear asking you whether "you want to use these shortcuts in your default Fetch shortcuts window". Click Make Default.
Since Fetch stores passwords for shortcuts in your keychain, syncing your shortcuts file does not sync your passwords.
If you only have a few passwords, the simplest solution is to re-enter your passwords on the new Macintosh (where they will be saved in that Macintosh's keychain). Otherwise, see the moving keychains and passwords to another Macintosh help topic for more options.
See the shortcuts help topic for more information about shortcuts.
